New Southern policy initiated by President Moon Jae-in, Republic of Korea last November were mentioned
three times in a row by 3 speakers such as Foreing
Minister Kang Kyung-hwa, new ASEAN-Korea Center
Secretary General Lee Hyuk as well as
Cambodia Amb. Dimanche LONG at a reception
celebrating the Relaunching of the ASEAN Hall & the
inaguration of Amb. Lee as Secretary General of the
ASEAN-Korea Centre last night.
While next year will commemorate the 10th
anniversary of the Korea-ASEAN Centre as well as
the 30th anniversary of Korea-ASEAN relations as a
milestone year, Korea-ASEAN Centre will do its utmost
to enforce substantial and result-oriented projects, said
new Secretary General Lee, laying
its priorities on prosperity & fourth industry revolution,
sustainable development, human-oriented community
construction and people-to-people exchanges between
Korea & ASEAN.
All ASEAN ambassadors stationed in Korea attended it
including Singapore Amb. YIP Wei Kiat, Malaysia Amb.
Dato Rohana Ramli, Philippines Amb. Raul Hernandez,
Laos Amb. Khamsouay Keodalavong, Myanmar Amb.
Thura H Thet Oo Maung besides Canada Amb. Eric Walsh,
New Zealand Amb. Philip Turner, & Romania Amb. Mihai
Ciompec etc.
Touching upon the fact that strategic partnership & mutual
confidence between Korea & ASEAN have been deepened
continuously during last 30 years, Foreign Minister Kang
said she expects Korea-ASEAN Centre would be able to play
a more important
role for upgrading bilateral partnerships into more higher
level and building a future community.
Amb. Lee Hyuk has been serving as a career diplomat
during last 38 years, having served as Vietnam Amb. &
Philippines Amb., according to MOFAT.
